Buffalo Prep is currently seeking to add a full time Assistant Director of Academic Programming who will assist the Director of Academic Programming with all aspects of Buffalo Prep's academic programs, including continued implementation of culturally relevant pedagogy, curriculum, classroom management, social-emotional wellness, and overall philosophy.

Essential Functions 

Program Oversight and Supervision

  • Work with program directors to support day-to-day program supervision, operations Coordinate and construct program schedules and calendars.
  • Work with the Director of Academic Programming and High School Prep Director to assist High School Prep students and families in the high school selection and placement processes.
  • Maintain program records and student database in a timely manner to provide program reports and student data in accordance with timeframes.
  • Work with Middle School Prep and High School Prep staff to ensure successful student transition into High School Prep and College Prep.
  • Maintain positive relationship and communication with all Buffalo Prep staff, students, and parents/guardians of students. Work with students on behavior and/or academic improvement plans as needed.
  • Assist with planning and organizing various events for the Middle School Prep and High School Prep program Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Assistant Director.

Student Counseling

  • Meet with students and lead discussions as needed. Refer students to Child and Family Services as needed.


  • Work with the Executive Director, the Assistant Director, and Director of Admissions and Recruitment to implement strategies to reach more potential candidates for the program.
  • Evaluate grade reports, interviews, and other factors to make admission decisions for Middle School Prep and High School Prep in conjunction with the admissions committee. Monitor data and retention rate of programs and work with the Assistant Director to develop a plan to reach the targeted goals as determined by the Buffalo Prep Board of Directors.

Public Relations and Events

  • Represent Buffalo Prep at public and special interest meetings and on external committees as determined by the needs of the program.
  • Attend and assist in pertinent planning actions for Buffalo Prep events.

Academic Program Responsibilities

  • Assist Executive Director, Assistant Director, and Buffalo Prep Faculty with Buffalo Prep's culturally relevant and culturally sustaining curriculum development, design and implementation.
  • Assist with facilitating regularly scheduled curriculum meetings with High School Prep and Middle School Prep faculty Assist to create, organize and support faculty professional development consistent with curricular and instructional development/design.
  • Work with Executive Director to utilize data for reporting purposes. Education and Experience Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education, counseling or related field.
  • Experience providing academic support and counseling to middle school students and recruitment/admissions. Counseling will focus on academic preparation, time management, socialization, and other skills that pertain to academically gifted middle school students.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is highly desired. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to engage students, listen effectively, and provide guidance for academically talented economically challenged underrepresented middle school students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work with a number of constituencies including students and their families, Buffalo Prep Staff, Board of Directors, and others.
  • Willingness to engage in study and implementation of culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy, curriculum, and classroom management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to network with other community service providers (schools, community groups, libraries, etc.) to recruit students for the program.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
