EDCO is committed to the ideals of equity and inclusion within our schools and the greater community.

Racism has existed in the United States since before we were an actual nation. The hate connected with racism and many other “isms” lives with us - seen and unseen. The seen, like the murder of George Floyd, is brutal and unforgivable. The same is true of the unseen – such as institutional racism that exists just under the surface of things with the goal of excluding Black American’s and other minorities from true equal rights. It is ALL wrong. Change is needed. And our youth will be the ones to lead us to that change.

The Education Collaborative of WNY (EdCo) is committed to the ideals of equity and inclusion within our schools and the greater community. While our differences define who we are as individuals, it is those differences that provide our strength as a school, region, state and nation. As a core element of our strategic mission, we strive to create educational spaces where everyone has a strong sense of belonging and can excel both academically and socially. We also recognize that we have much to learn, but our determination has never been stronger to be leaders of change and most importantly, to help shape those who will lead us to a better future.

Member Schools have access to support and training year-round.

EdCo schools admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students. They do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs or athletic and other school-administered programs and activities.

Support for Members

To support the establishment of equitable, anti-bias, multicultural school environments, EdCo has partnered with the Eastern Education Resource Collaborative (East Ed). East Ed will serve as a resource to schools and families, and facilitate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives with member schools throughout the school year.

EdCo Teacher DEI Collaborative

This group will work together to further the overall goal of supporting the EdCo schools' progress in DEI:

  • Research, study, and discuss societal systems that currently and historically cause inequity.
  • Examine the atmosphere of equity and inclusion in Western New York, and in their school communities.
  • Network and support each other around equity and inclusion work.
  • Collaborate on deliverable projects to address equity and inclusion issues in their school communities.
  • Internally support the work of EdCo and EastEd in their schools.
